Founded in 1886, the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest (UPB) is the largest and oldest technical university in the country and among the most prestigious universities in Romania. The POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest consists of 15 faculties offering bachelor, master and PhD programmes in computer science, telecommunications and information technology, entrepreneurship, engineering and business management, biotechnological systems, management of technological systems, applied chemistry, materials science, etc.

In addition, UPB is a full member of several academic organisations, including the Conference of European Schools for Education and Advanced Research in Engineering (CESAER), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the European University Association (EUA), the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), etc.

UPB participates in hundreds of European programmes such as LIFELONG LEARNING (ERASMUS or LEONARDO) on the basis of the approved ERASMUS University Charter 2007 – 2013. One of UPB’s objectives is to create knowledge through scientific research and technological innovation as well as through its implementation through education and vocational training on a European level.

Since 2001, UPB has been using an e-learning platform to provide efficient support to the educational process, contributing significantly to the training and acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Based on the needs of students, POLITEHNICA University Bucharest founded the Career Guidance and Counselling Centre in 1997. The main activities of the centre are focused on the development of students’ transversal skills necessary for their transition into the world of work and for their professional integration. The centre’s researchers have extensive working experience in the adaptation of ICT tools to meet the specific needs of career guidance students and in the development of training paths for students based on cooperative learning approaches. Scientific research at the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest – UPB is traditionally one of the most important components of its activities, offering visibility and professional recognition at national and international level. In connection with the modern concepts of “knowledge society” and “knowledge economy”, UPB has defined some strategic orientations of scientific research, derived from the competences of our human resources and responding to our research infrastructure, available in our research centres, departments and laboratories.
